KIM BLACK
My name is Kim and I'm a photographer based in Scotland. I started shooting with a camera in 2018, before this I used a phone.
I became interested in photography as a way of communicating with people.
To me photography is an explanation. By this I mean a good photograph explains something in further detail i.e.. How someone was feeling at a particular second.
Even a macro photo of an inanimate object offers an explanation i.e. the reason why the photographer thought it was beautiful.
Beyond this, in my opinion, a photo is accentuated by an aesthetic beauty. Many photographers disagree and focus on the message it conveys. However, I believe beauty adds weight to any message and gets people to "listen".
I believe strong elements of subjective beauty in my own photographs are composition and colour harmony. I'm a big believer in how editing adds interest to a photo and an unedited photo is not inherently superior to an edited photo. Editing should not be minimised in the creative process.
I think we should celebrate photography in all its forms. And listen to what we each individually try to explain.
