"Sergey Raylyan lost his eyes and feet during a car explosion on an anti-tank mine in 2022 near Maryinka in the Donetsk Oblast. Then commander of a mortar artillery group in the Ukrainian army, 26-year-old Raylyan was seriously wounded after his unit drove a pickup truck into an anti-tank mine."

Devil-may-care portrait, a figure dons a shiny pink latex mask complete with tiny devil horns, exuding both charm and mischief. Wisps of smoke curl around their lips as a cigarette dangles from a cutout in the mask, adding an air of rebellious allure. With piercing, smoky eyeshadow and a pearl choke.

I met this woman in my last trip to Laos, in Phongsali province. She was helping the homestay owners in their farming activities. She is from the Akha Oma ethnicity, one of the over 40 living in this region. She is wearing her traditional headgear.

Woman of the Samburu tribe, Kenya. Beads have been an integral part of Samburu culture since before Europeans arrived. Beads denote many things in Samburu culture: wealth, age, gender, and status.

Mornington Island (Kunhanhaa) is an indigenous community in remote northern Australia. Many residents live in sub-standard overcrowded houses leading to social and psychological problems. Shaylene Yarrick beds down her children in the lounge of her 2 bedroom house that regularly sleeps more than 20.

In schools without electricity, students face the daily challenge of moving desks close to windows just to catch enough light to see. This simple need—natural light—becomes a barrier to learning, making concentration difficult and adding strain to their efforts to learn and thrive in tough condition.
