RULES FOR THE
PHOTOGRAPHER OF THE YEAR
AWARD

Eligibility and Participation Requirements

  • All photographers participating in any of the 12 monthly contests are automatically participating for the title of Photographer of the Year, and is totally free.

  • The main idea of this award is to recognize the most versatile photographers, capable of taking amazing photographs in different photography themes.

  • A photographer must earn points (does not matter the position) in at least two separate contests to qualify for the Photographer of the Year award. This requirement highlights versatility and skill across multiple themes. If there are no photographers with points earned in at least two contest then the requirement is only one.

Points System

  • Points will be awarded as follows:

- 1st Place: 50 points

- 2nd Place: 30 points

- 3rd Place: 20 points

- Honorable Mention: 5 points

  • Points accumulate across each contest for the entire year (starting with our Architecture contest open on November 8th, 2024 and ending with our Open Theme contest on January 9th, 2026). This system ensures that consistent high performance and versatility are rewarded, while still allowing others a chance to compete across different contests.

Contest Themes and Frequency

  • Each monthly contest features a unique theme, encouraging photographers to showcase a range of skills and creativity.

  • Each contest is open approximately 3 months, so all the time there are 3 contest accepting photographs.

  • The Photographer of the Year award promotes participation across these varied themes, rewarding those who demonstrate adaptability and creativity throughout the year.

  • The contest themes are the next ones and in this order:

  1. Architecture

  • In late January 2026, we will release a printed magazine showing the best 100 photographs of the 2025 year from different photographers including all the contests.

  • These prizes are additional to those won during the different contests of the year.

Tiebreaker

  • In the event of a tie in points, the photographer who has placed in more contests (1st, 2nd, or 3rd) will be the winner.

  • If the tie remains, the photographer with the highest number of 1st-place wins will be awarded the title. If necessary, this will then proceed to the highest number of 2nd-place wins.
